Why 'it depends' still lands on 'act now'
The honest answer here isn't a clean yes or no, because the actual consequences of delay scale with time — a gap sealed a week late is a very different situation from one sealed three months late. But the direction of that scaling only goes one way. Rodents inside a heated New Hampshire home in winter don't pause their biology to wait out the season; they breed continuously, so every week of delay is a week of population growth on top of whatever damage is already accumulating. 'It depends how long' is a real answer, but it isn't a reassuring one.
