Fleas are tiny insects that feed on the blood of animals and humans. They have a complex life cycle with four stages: egg, larva (like a tiny worm), pupa (a cocoon), and adult. Most of these stages do not live directly on your pet, but instead spend time in your carpets, rugs, floors, upholstery, and even cracks in the floorboards. Only the adult fleas jump onto you or your pet to feed.
