    Keep at least a 6-inch gap between the top of the soil and the bottom edge of any exterior foam, and leave a bare, uninsulated inspection strip of about 3 to 4 inches at the top of the foundation below the sill. This restores the visibility that continuous foam otherwise destroys, exposing the mud tube any colony must build to cross that exposed band. Never let soil, mulch, or regrading bury the foam or close that gap over time.

    Prefer interior insulation or protected detailing in higher-risk zones

    Where practical, moving rigid insulation to the interior side of the foundation wall, or using flashing and a termite shield to force any activity into the open, is the building-science recommendation for areas with established subterranean termite populations.     Keep the perimeter dry

    Grade the yard and manage drainage so water sheds away from the foam-to-concrete interface rather than pooling against it. A dry perimeter is less attractive to foraging termites and slows the general deterioration of the foam-and-sealant assembly itself.
