Why the pet isn't the problem
It's worth being direct about this: no pest is drawn to a dog or a cat as an animal. What draws mice, rats, ants, and cockroaches is the concentrated, easily accessible food a pet's presence typically brings into a house — kibble in an open bag, a full bowl left out overnight, spilled crumbs around a feeding station.
That distinction matters because it means the fix has nothing to do with the pet and everything to do with storage and routine. A household can keep pets and still remove nearly all of this risk factor with a few changes to how food is stored and served.
