With the first day of spring just around the corner, it’s time to come up with a top-to-bottom spring cleaning strategy for your home!
If you’re not the kind of person who gets excited about spring cleaning, we can’t say that we blame you. We’re going to do some of the heavy lifting for you as we discuss three easy-to-implement tips that will help you not only clean your home, but help you reduce the risk of unwanted visitors, too!
Deep Clean Your Kitchen
When was the last time you cleaned your kitchen? We don’t mean just wiping down the countertops and sweeping the floor — we mean the kind of cleaning that requires you to move your oven, fridge, and clean out the pantry. The areas under your fridge and stove are notorious for collecting crumbs, which can provide pests with plenty of sustenance if they’re able to make their way inside.
Your pantry, on the other hand, probably has some items that haven’t been touched in several months, if not more than a year. Start by taking every item out and wiping down the interior. Then, inspect each package for gnaw marks and other signs of pests and check the expiration date. You’ll probably be surprised how many expired things are sitting in the back of your cupboard!
Clean Bathrooms and Check the Plumbing
Once you’ve cleaned your kitchen, turn your attention to the bathroom. Give your shower curtain a wash, clean your bathtub thoroughly, and give all of the visible plumbing an inspection. Many springtime pests are drawn to water, and any areas with excess moisture could become a breeding ground as the season continues. If you do find leaky pipes or more moisture than usual, contact a plumber as soon as possible to get the problem fixed.
Clear Clutter From Your Basement
What do rodents, spiders, cockroaches, and other common springtime pests have in common? They all thrive in basements, especially if the area is filled with clutter that provides them with the perfect environment in which to reproduce. Since you’re already spring cleaning, this is a great time to go through your belongings and get rid of junk that you haven’t touched in years! As for the items that you do keep, store them in tightly sealed plastic bins that pests won’t be able to get into.
