Why this question has a different answer depending on where you live
Fire ant content online is written almost entirely from a Southern perspective, because that's where the ant actually lives, and it gets syndicated and reprinted without any adjustment for readers in places the ant has never reached. Red imported fire ants are climate-limited: USDA APHIS's federal quarantine map of infested states runs through the South and South-Central US, with the northernmost edge around Virginia, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. New Hampshire is not on that list, and it isn't close to the boundary.
