Rodenticide baiting reliably kills rodents when used correctly in tamper-resistant stations, but it carries real primary- and secondary-poisoning risk that trapping and exclusion simply don't — which is why baiting should supplement, not replace, the mechanical basics.

  3. If baiting, use tamper-resistant stations only

    Place consumer-grade bait — first-generation anticoagulant, bromethalin, or cholecalciferol — only inside a locked, tamper-resistant station positioned along a confirmed runway or burrow entrance, per the label.

    Caution: Never place loose bait anywhere a pet, child, or wild animal can reach it.

  4. Never exceed what the label allows

    Follow the product label exactly for placement, station type, and reapplication interval — the label is the law, and it's written around the documented poisoning risks.

    Caution: Second-generation anticoagulants (brodifacoum, bromadiolone, difenacoum, difethialone) are restricted-use in NH; if a product isn't labeled for consumer sale, it isn't legal to DIY.

  5. Search for and remove carcasses
